About the School
Downe House is a private boarding school, located in the middle of nature, Berkshire County, near Reading and 45 minutes from Heathrow Airport.

Accommodation
Students are accommodated by age. Bathrooms are shared, located near the students' bedrooms. Students over 16 have individual or double rooms, those aged 13-15 years old have rooms with 2-3 beds and students aged 10 - 12 years old have rooms with 2-4 beds, while the youngest children are accommodated in rooms with 3 or 4 beds.

Sport and leisure
The school has 3 squash courts, 13 tennis courts, 25m long covered and heated swimming pool and a large gym. Every evening, an entertainment program is organized.

Extra sports or music (10-18 years)
In exchange for an extra fee, one afternoon per week offers 8 lessons of 45 minutes of tennis, golf, football or music. Football classes are held by Chelsea team coaches. Where the equipment can`t be provided by the school, it is advisable for students to have their own equipment (clothing and appropriate shoes) for tennis, golf and football. At music classes, students play different instruments, explore different songs, and play in a band. All activities take place provided there is a min. of 4 participants.

Trips
Students of 11-13 and 14 - 18 years have different programs during day trips. They visit the following main attractions in London: Natural Maritime Museum, British Museum, National History Museum, London Eye, Legoland, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Zoo, Oxford Street, Madame Tussauds. For an extra fee, trips can be offered to Harry Potter Studios, London available musicals or amusement parks.

About courses

Course for 10-18 years: this is an intensive course suitable for students eager to learn new things. The teaching is very intense and takes place in small groups of approx. 7-8 people. The courses take place 4 times a week and include:

  • Language skills (reading, speaking, listening, grammar) - 4 hours of study / day.
  • Individual training - 2 hours of study / day - teachers guide students on how to prepare their lessons, review what they`ve learned so far and how to prepare for the weekly trip.
  • Optional subject - 2 hours of study / day. This can be chosen at the time of enrollment to be studied for at least a week after this can be changed as follows: 
     - Option A: Cinematography, Music, Drama, English, Fashion Design, Health and Fitness, Journalism and Creative Writing ( 13-18 years).
     - Option B: At the time of enrollment the language level is tested. Min. of 4 participants is required. The subjects include The Best of Britain (min. B1); Exam Preparation (13-18 years), Debates (13-18 years min. B1), English for Businesses (13 to 18 years, min. B1).

Course for 6-10 years: the course is being run separately from the older children. In week 1 and 3 there are 24 hours of English/week and 20 hours of English/week in week 2 and 4.The course includes various full of fun activities such as reading, singing, role play, projects, arts and crafts, storytelling, public speaking, diary writing, trip preparation, culinary arts. Trips to Legoland, Zoo, the Pottery Centre, Bucklebury farm, Hawk Conservatory and others.
